## Overview

The Zacuto Z-Finder Jr is a 2.5x magnification optical viewfinder designed to enhance DSLR video shooting by providing a clear, focused view of 3" LCD screens. Featuring a 40mm precision lens and customizable extender frames, it allows users to fine-tune focus without a diopter. It mounts securely via a bracket or adhesive frame, optimized for small body DSLRs such as Canon 5D and 7D models, delivering improved ergonomics and reduced light leakage for professional video capture.

## Description

The Z-Finder Jr. is one of Zacuto's Optical Viewfinders that allows DSLR cameras to have the correct form factor for video. It offers 2.5x focusable magnification, a 40mm diameter Zacuto optical designed lens, an eyecup preventing extraneous light leakage, and a field of view perfectly matched to 3" LCD screens. The Z-Finder Jr. does not have a diopter instead it uses Z-Finder Extender Frames to adjust the focal point. The Z-Finder Jr's focal point is -2.75 and up (unlimited with extender frames). The Z-Finder Extender Frames attach to the skirt of the Z-Finder Jr. and allow you to semi-permanently stack the frames until the LCD screen is in focus for you. The Z-Finder Jr. uses a mounting bracket that must be sandwiched in between a tripod plate and the camera. The bracket mounts to the _ 20" screw on your tripod plate and the actual Jr. is held in place with pressure from the fork of the bracket it sits in. You also have the option to mount the Z-Finder Jr. using the Z-Finder Mounting Frame (snap fit adhesive mounting frame) which is also included. Note: The Z-Finder JR (with included mounting bracket) will only work on small body DSLRs such as the Canon 5D/7D. If you would like to use a Z-Finder JR on a small body DSLR with a battery grip, or a taller body camera like the Canon 1D Mark IV, you will have to use the Gorilla Plate, as well as the battery grip frame or taller frame, or the snap fit mounting adhesive frame. The mounting bracket that is included with the Z-Finder JR only works on small body DSLR cameras.

Review: Returned it - Yeah...if you are going to splurge and go Zacuto, than get the "pro" versions. The reason the price on this one has dropped by a hundred dollars since it's release is because it's so obviously bad in every way. Sure, the optical piece itself is good quality, but the mounting bracket (both systems) are so bad it's a joke. I didn't even TRY the aluminum frame mounting option, as it is so obviously terrible. (I mean, I did try, for 15 minutes, so line things up and figure it out, but, disaster) So i went straight for the stick on mounting option. Which WOULD have been cool, HOWEVER, i stuck it on there, put books on it all night, next day, it came right off when I tried to pull off the main piece from it. I think it has more to do with the fact that it mounts way too tightly onto the little sticky bracket. I thought they would have used magnets, like all the cheap chinese versions you can buy for 20 bucks here on desertcart. but no, it's a snap on plastic version, and it is bad. too tight, peals the sticky bracket right off. anyway, just skip this and save yourself the trouble of a return.
Review: Got this for the BMPCC and no worries that it's ... - Got this for the BMPCC and no worries that it's not wide enough but definitely doesn't stick (after leaving on for a day with books on top). My biggest problem is that I didn't receive the alternative metal mounting bracket. Meh and could definitely go off brand for the same benefit.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I re-sold it, and I'm STILL happy.

As far as I'm concerned, this magnifier is a game-changer. After reading the complaints about Junior, I didn't know if I could befriend him. However, this is about the best on the market, optically, and normally priced to match, but the price here is more than fair, and I bought one open-box dirt cheap. As a retired pro, used to Leica M (yes, it has been awhile), focusing on a screen can be a real challenge. On both my NEX-7 and A7R, the improvement in ease-of-use is phenomenal. The combination is not quite a rangefinder, but what is? Yes, the mounting system is unforgiveable, though I did not look into the accessory mounts.. However, epoxy putty heals many ills. No I didn't go that far, but I did convince myself to buy an EVF-PRO, a different animal, yes, but including the same magnifier. You really can't go wrong here. Just to check out the unit and then re-sell it is worthwhile only to experience the phenomenal clarity. What we have here is part of a DSLR to HandyCam converter, almost.
