I debated between purchasing ones that were/were not vinyl coated and couldn't be happier with my decision to go with vinyl coasted ones. I use these regularly, particularly when i travel internationally (which happens every few weeks). They have held up in holding up luggage tags to holding together straps that were nearing their breaking point. The ends fit together with a screw type mechanism and holds together regardless of any pressure I've been able to apply to pull them apart. It works well. You can put just about anything with a hole on this thing.
