Forget the blue/green masking tapes from the big box stores that cost 2 or 3 times the price. This is far superior to even the "sensitive" or "platinum" versions of the blue tapes, ESPECIALLY if you're masking over previously painted surfaces. If you're masking a fresh unpainted surface those other tapes might make more sense, but how often is that the case? With any tape, it's all about making sure that you've rubbed down the edge really well to get a good crisp line, but in doing that a high tack tape is more than likely to pull up or mark any previous paint; this tape did not. Even using automotive enamels, I found that a previous coat of paint only needed 24 hours of drying, before I could use this to mask over it without leaving marking. All of the blue tapes required 48/72 hours of curing before they could be trusted not to mark the fresh paint. Review: EXCELLENT for watercolor paper and Clairefontaine Pastelmat to keep borders clean - This is a great tape for taping down your paper on to your work surface/board. We used this in in a watercolor class to put over (dry) watercolor AFTER cutting out a shape - basically making a stencil and then using a "thirsty" brush to lift highlight shapes from the already dried watercolor paper. Now I use it to tape down my Clairefontaine Pastelmat at the edges to my support board. When I'm done with the pastel painting this tape removes effortlessly and leaves a crisp clean edge. I prefer to use French made D'Arches papers, they have a tough, workable surface and I have used many rolls of the KleenEdge tape in question. It allows for really sharp edge detail but one absolutely MUST be sure to press the tape down against completely dry paper and not overly wet the paper. Experimenting will show the way because different paper brands will behave differently. In my marine renditions I have found success with strips cut as slim in width as 1/4 inch (5.5 mm+/-). **Q: Does this tape come off with leaving sticky residue?** A: Does not leave a sticky residue. **Q: What color is the tape?** A: The tape itself is white. I had some of the same tape left over from a previous painting job and it worked so well on the lower end of the border that I ordered this additional roll. I used it to tape the top of the border when painting the ceiling and when I removed it the border was torn. All I can think of is that the tape was old.
