Review: Quickly becoming my favorite way to make coffee - As a coffee enthusiast, I've tried various coffee makers, including the French Press, Aeropress, OXO 8-Cup Coffee Maker (Gold Cup certified by SCA), and ceramic Hario V60. However, this double-walled BODUM is quickly becoming my favorite. I would give it 5 stars without hesitation. Firstly, the coffee produced by this pour-over coffee maker is excellent. The flavor is rich and full-bodied, and I find that the double-walled design keeps the coffee nice and warm without over-extracting the coffee. The double-walled design also makes it easy to handle the carafe without burning my fingers. Secondly, I appreciate how easy it is to use this coffee maker. The simple design makes it easy to brew a perfect cup of coffee every time, and the cork grip adds a nice touch of style and comfort. It's also easy to clean, which is always a plus. Lastly, the double-walled version of this coffee maker is great at keeping the coffee warm for an extended period of time. However, it doesn't come with a lid, so you need to drink the coffee quickly or transfer to a thermal carafe. That being said, this is a minor issue compared to the overall quality and convenience of the design. Overall, I would highly recommend this BODUM to any coffee lover looking for a high-quality pour-over coffee maker. The flavor of the coffee is great, it's easy to use, and the double-walled design keeps the coffee warm. It's quickly becoming my go-to coffee maker, and I'm very happy with my purchase.
Review: Great Carafe - My Mr. Coffee died one morning as I was trying to get ready for work. Coffee was an absolute must, so I heated water in the microwave and very slowly (very very slowly) poured it over the grounds I had already loaded in the coffee maker. Imagine my surprise to discover this was absolutely delicious coffee! After doing this for the next couple of days (couldn't get to the store right away for a replacement coffee maker), I was hooked!. I was also thrilled to learn other people had already discovered this method and there were products to make it easier. After doing a little research, I selected this model carafe based on size, product reviews, and price. This carafe holds three mugs (approx. 12 oz.) of coffee, which is how many I drink in the morning. Would actually like a larger capacity for weekends and sharing, but can pretty easily make a second pot if necessary. Didn't notice a lot of choices for a larger carafe of this style, and imagine it would affect the ease of handling. If buying pre-ground coffee, the stainless steel filter does not filter out the very fine grounds. You can add a paper filter (which is what I do), or if grinding your own coffee, do a courser ground. The carafe comes with said filter (plastic with stainless steel mesh), a measuring scoop and a lid for the neck of the carafe (both plastic). Use the measuring scoop (I didn't at first) as it does require a larger amount of coffee to get the same strength I am used to with the drip machine. Using the paper filter not only keeps the fine grounds out, but also slows the water seepage down for a more robust flavor. Once the coffee is brewed, the lid fits in the neck of the carafe, but has a small opening so you can pour out the coffee while leaving it in place to keep the heat in. I bought the double-walled also for this purpose. I drink my mugs over the course of an hour and have been somewhat satisfied with the heat retention. The last mug while not hot, is warm enough that do not microwave. Personally, I would prefer a lid (cork or rubber?) that covers the entire neck opening while allowing easy removal for pouring as opposed to the opening left in the lid. While the opening is small, believe the heat retention would be better. You will need a water kettle to use with this carafe. I purchased a goose-necked spout electric kettle that works great, but was an additional expense. Altogether, I spent around $70 for this system. It requires a little more time and effort that simply loading a drip coffee maker and turning it on. You have to heat the water, load the grounds into the filter of the carafe, and then slowly pour the water over the grounds. Personally, I have come to enjoy the whole process and would recommend it to anyone. The coffee is smooth, robust and delicious!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does the permanent stainless steel mesh filter have plastic on it or is it entirely stainless steel?**
A: The 3 cup (17 oz) new version has a metal filter. The black part has what feels to be a rubbery/silicone-like texture. It does not feel like plastic. I’m curious about the 8 cup (34 oz) version. Some reviews with pics show a plastic free filter in 2023. I wonder if anyone has receive a 34 oz with plastic.

**Q: What is the best grind to use for making a coffee in this pot? My daughter complains the water flows thru too quick and makes a weak cup of coffee.**
A: Use COARSE grind, use more or less to taste (experiment is best)! >DO NOT use a paper filter, as this captures the essential oils that make the coffee more flavorful. Pour a small amount of water over the grounds to just wet. Wait 15-30 sec. -It will "puff up" the grounds, THEN pour the rest of the water slowly. Also it is important to use filtered water heated to (about) 177 degrees. (Boiled water will scorch giving you a bitter taste).

**Q: How do you measure 8 cups out of this product? I bearly even get two cups out of it. Did I get sent the wrong size?**
A: It's a little strange and confusing, but coffee is measured in 4 oz cups instead of 8 oz cups. As the description states, this coffee maker holds 34 oz, which is 8.5 4-oz cups. Most coffee mugs are 10-16 oz, so most people will only get 2-3 "cups" of coffee out of one 34 oz pot.

**Q: Can you use paper filter alone, or would you need to put the paper inside the plastic filter for support?**
A: probably cant use paper alone, would slip into pot with weight combination of grounds and water. but dont use paper, just use the provided metal/plastic filter, otherwise youll take away all those tasty coffee oils.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I didn't know coffee could taste this good!
*by S***L on November 29, 2018*

I have had the opportunity to drink allot of bad coffee. The worst was "rig coffee". When working on an oil rig out in the middle of nowhere; the driller always had coffee brewing in his office. This "rig coffee" had usually been boiling for many hours and was thick, bitter and burnt. This Bodum 11682-109 Double Wall Pour Over Coffee Maker with Cork Grip makes the best coffee by far. It is very easy to use, not taking much longer than using my Mr.Coffee auto drip machine. I have purchased many auto-drip coffee machines and have been disappointed. In my research I have found that in almost 100% of cases these machines never reach the optimum brew temperature of 200 degrees from start to finish. I had even purchased a burr coffee grinder trying to get a better tasting brew. My low cost Mr. Coffee is the best of a bad lot. I would have to divert the brew water spout back into the water reservoir, waiting for the water to finally reach 195-200 degrees, then move the spout over the brew basket to finish making the pot. Now I am able to control the entire brew process in less time and trouble with my new Bodum. This Bodum 11682-109 Double Wall Pour Over Coffee Maker is fantastic. Before I attempted to brew my first pot I searched U-Tube for tutorials and advice. I found the only negative comment was the coffee brew time (amount of time coffee was in contact with water was too short, due to the stainless steel mesh permanent filter) The simple fix was to simply add a Melitta paper filter in addition to the mesh filter. This was a great idea. It solved the brew time issue and also made clean up easier. The only other minor issue has been the pour spout built into the glass. It is easy to spill if you pour too fast. I have read about coffee flavors, with overtones of fruit etc but had never experienced. Now I have. By far this is the best coffee maker I have ever purchased and enthusiastically recommend. I will now be in the market for a pour over style hot water kettle with adjustable temperature control and a scale to measure coffee/water in order to fine tune my brew. I have found if I brew a full pot, the double wall glass does keep the coffee warm but not as hot as I prefer. I can either microwave to reheat or as some have advised use a thermos to extend preferred temperature. Some reading this review may think the effort is too great for a cup of joe. I have found as I have aged that it is the little things in life that bring enjoyment. Slowing down and finally being able to enjoy a truly great cup of coffee. I now drink my coffee black. Yes, it is worth the effort and time.
