Mine are in the wall so I can't say, but I am sure that they are rather long because they are supporting a lot of wght. They are in drywall so maybe that helps, so depending on what you are drilling into and mounting onto, and how much wght. there will be on the rack. **Q: does it hold 1.5 liter bottles or just regular sized bottles?** A: No, the rack only holds regular size wine bottles Danielle! **Q: What is the maximum size of wine glass bottom?** A: I have 30 oz wine glasses on mine. The bottom is a little larger than your standard 12 or 15 oz glass. I must stagger mine only because the glass bell itself is larger than regular glasses. Like others have stated, if you can't mount the vertical mounts strait into wall studs, then I would stress purchasing a package of heavy duty drywall anchors. I would not trust the weak plastic expanding anchors that came with the rack to handle the weight of my full wine bottles and racks full of wine glasses. It is far cheaper to purchase a $10.00 package of proper drywall studs that it is to replace expensive bottles of wine and sets of glasses. Thus, my 4 star rating. If this rack would have come with heavy duty drywall anchors I would have gladly and honestly given this a 5 star rating.As far as mounting the rack to the wall, all the tools I needed were a hammer, 6 twist ties, a carpenter's level, a pencil, my cordless drill and a 6" driver extension for the drill.*** Tip for mounting this by yourself***If you are going to attempt to mount this rack by yourself, here is a tip that will make it much easier. As the vertical mounts that you screw to the wall kind of slip onto the rack itself and use gravity / weight to stay in place, they will tend to slip off when you are holding the rack up against the wall while trying to find your level and mark your anchor holes. So what I did was used twist ties (the kind you get in a box of garbage bags) to secure the vertical mounts in place on the horizontal rack. I used about 3 or 4 on each mount. This way I could hold the rack up against the wall with one hand, find the level by placing my carpenter's level across the rack and mark my anchor holes on the drywall with the other hand. Once the marks were made, was just a matter of tapping the anchors into the drywall, pre-tightening them and then lifting the whole thing up again to bolt it to the anchors. Screw in each anchor bolt until it is tight and then remove your twist ties. Pretty simple really. An extension for your driver bit is also helpful as a couple of the mounting holes are tucked up under the horizontal shelf once it's in place.Looks great with a new set of nice wine glasses and a shelf full of wine! No worries about it falling at all if mounted correctly with strong drywall anchors. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Looks Great; Bit Challenging to Install *by D***E on Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2013* We just completely renovated our dining room, by the strength of our own hands, and wanted something to display our varied stemware collection (which we actually use all the time), so it had to be user-friendly, too. We are thrilled with the final event of having it up, and it is very well-suited to its purpose. We are following the tip of another user who installed a lightweight shelf across the top to increase storage capacity, since we already have a wine rack. Our only snag with this product is that it was a monster to put up, get level, hold in place, etc. Both of us worked at it and we aren't completely installation-challenged when it comes to this kind of thing. We had to re-position several times before "committing" to anchors and screws, and even at that, the left bracket wound up crooked a bit because it was awkward to hold everything together while drawing screw holes. My husband was anxiety-ridden about the bracket being off-kilter, but I told him to leave it... good enough for all the work we went through to get it that far.
