Yes it is ready to use but, no it is not smooth. They're used for grinding whether it happens to be corn kernels or Chili's. We use ours for making guacamole, and salsa. When cleaning it use a small stiff brush to clean out the pores and hot water of course. I hope this helps you. **Q: Could you tell me interior dimensions?** A: 5.75 across and about 2.5 inches deep **Q: I am looking for a BLACK one. Is this molcajete black or black and white?** A: The Molcajete I purchased is of a native lava rock and is basically black, but has flecks of a grayish lava as well. These are made from natural rock and thus there is inconsistenty in color and form. It is not perfection in its own right, but is marvelous to cook with! Love it... **Q: it smells like dirt? Is it supossed to?** A: It is made from lava rock...after it is used for a while it will likely take on other spice smells. ## Frequently Bought Together - Molcajete de Piedra Negra / Black Stone Mortar & Pestle Molcajete - Coladera Set of 3 Natural Fiber Dish Brush Cleaners Mexican Escobetas Molcajete with Hangers Sustainable Kitchen Cleaning Scrubber Brushes for Pots Sinks and Pans Cepillo Limpia Trastes Yellow - Victoria 8 Inches Cast Iron Tortilla Press, Roti Maker and Tortilladora, Pataconera Seasoned with Flaxseed Oil, Made in Colombia --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.tn/products/401994245-la-mexicana-molcajete-de-piedra-negra-black-stone-mortar-pestle](https://www.desertcart.tn/products/401994245-la-mexicana-molcajete-de-piedra-negra-black-stone-mortar-pestle) --- *Product available on Desertcart Tunisia* *Store origin: TN* *Last updated: 2026-10-07*
