'Intelligent, amusing and entertaining' Alexander McCall Smith The story opens in the spring of 1890 at a glamorous reception hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Albemarle. All London's haut monde is there, including the Prince of Wales, who counts the Albemarles as close friends. Although it is the first time Oscar and Bertie have met, Oscar seems far more interested in Rex LaSalle, a young actor, who disarmingly claims to be a vampire. However, what begins as a diverting evening ends in tragedy. As the guests are leaving, the Duchess is found murdered, two tiny puncture marks in her throat. No one has entered the house; no one has left. Desperate to avoid another scandal, the Prince of Wales asks Oscar to investigate the crime. What he discovers threatens to destroy the very heart of the Royal Family. Review: come nuovo - io libro è praticamente nuovo, solo un po' vissuto, il che ne aumenta il fascino. Penso acquisterò altri libri usati Review: A missed opportunity - The book had begun promisingly, with a multiple P-O-V structure, interspersed with adequately gothic tropes, dastardly crimes, and (finally!) Arthur Conan Doyle in fine form. But then it fizzled out like stale soda, with a rushed-yet-pointless ending. Something is seriously wrong with the author, I think. Story after story, he complicates plots to an unmanageable level, and then hastily concludes his novel, so that he can start another! Now you decide whether you are going to read this book, or not. ## Features - Item Trademark: HODDER PAPERBACK - manufacturer: Hodder Paperback ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Customer Reviews | 4.3 out of 5 stars 63 Reviews | ## Images ![Oscar Wilde and the Nest of Vipers: Oscar Wilde Mystery: 4 - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81LViiDBDiL.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ come nuovo *by G***I on 27 August 2014* io libro è praticamente nuovo, solo un po' vissuto, il che ne aumenta il fascino. He is aided in his investigations by Arthur Conan Doyle, Bram Stoker, and his biographer Robert Sherard. It all begins at a high scoiety party hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Albemarle where the Duchess is found murdered. In attendance at the party is the Prince of Wales, a psychiatrist by the name of Lord Yarbrough and Rex LaSalle who claims to be a vampire, and who just happens to capture Wilde's eye. Because the Duchess has two small puncture wounds on her neck they immediately suspect a vampire has done the deed. In fact, Rex LaSalle who claims to be a vampire told Wilde that he would take the Duchess that very night, but at the time she is killed LaSalle is standing with Wilde at the party. Everything that happens in the book is told through newspaper articles, telegrams, letters, and diary entries, particulary those diary entries of Robert Sherard and Arthur Conan Doyle. The story takes us to various places, i.e., restaurants, parties, opium dens, insane asylum, a gloomy graveyard and the Moulin Rouge. This really lets the reader see different sides of the investigation as well as get to know all the characters far better. I actually felt chills during the narration of the graveyard scene where the Vampire Club meets and where our protagonists go to learn more about vampires. The scene was eerily dark and suspenseful. It's the first time I've actually felt apprehension in one of the Oscar Wilde books. This book is humorous while being intriguing at the same time. It is a good mystery book with an adorable protagonist and very likeable other characters. This is a thoroughly entertaining and captivating book. I highly recommend it. --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.tn/products/402479175-oscar-wilde-and-the-nest-of-vipers-oscar-wilde-mystery](https://www.desertcart.tn/products/402479175-oscar-wilde-and-the-nest-of-vipers-oscar-wilde-mystery) --- *Product available on Desertcart Tunisia* *Store origin: TN* *Last updated: 2026-11-01*
