Review: YOUR PLANTS WILL ❤️ YOU!!!!! - Blumat Classic Automatic Plant Watering Stakes are AMAZING!!! I received them, followed the directions, my plants have never been happier. Here are my tips as per directions and reviews…. 1) Make sure you try them for at least 2 weeks before your planned vacation to make sure they are set up correctly. 2) make sure to lightly sand entire (pottery) surface of stakes 3) soak stakes and tops (attached to tubes) in a container for 1 hour 4) leaving both pieces in the container with water, make sure the stakes are filled with water (while you are holding it under the water) and place cap on and off several times until all the air has been released and there are no more air bubbles coming out of the end of tube. Watch carefully for this while all parts are submerged. 5) after watering your plants the “traditional” way, place stake into soil gently (without disrupting plant roots). Depending on the size of your plant, you might need additional stakes. 6) place the end of tube into container with water (depending on how long you are gone, the container should be large enough to hold a sufficient amount of water). ***after set up, you should notice water decreasing from the container. Keep in mind, if your soil was wet initially, your plant will require less water from the stakes. Once the soil is no longer wet from the “traditional” watering, you will notice your plant “drinking daily” from the stakes. If you see that one is not working, remove from soil, rinse, sand the stake again, soak, place cover on and off again several times (while your holding both pieces under water) until no bubbles come out of the tube anymore. Then place the stake in your soil and try again. The first time I used these for my plants (out of town for 5 weeks) I put all my plants into my bathroom, just in case the system did not Work properly. I wanted to make it easier for my neighbour to water everything in case it was no successful. (I had someone stop by weekly to make sure everything was ok). I also bought large buckets from Home Depot (approx. $3 each) so the plants were sure to have enough water. It worked perfectly!!!! My buckets were large enough, that my neighbour never had to add extra water. The plants “took what they needed”. When I returned home, my plants looked green and so happy. Actually better than “traditional” watering. I took them out of the bathroom and placed them all back where they belonged throughout my house. I was so happy with the results, I’ve decided to permanently “water” my plants with the stakes. Much easier and the plants love it! Last 4 pictures are plants in their permanent locations with stakes set up. I check water levels and add as necessary. Super easy!! It’s a little time consuming to set up initially, but well worth it!!! Plants will ❤️ You and you will save time in the long run!!! It’s been a month since I’ve returned and my plants are thriving and sooo happy!!! HIGHLY recommend! Read other reviews for tips!!! I have a lot of plants so I ordered 2 sets.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this the xl or the jr?**
A: I think the 6 pckg Is The KL is 4 x 2 x 2 Inches. The Jr is 4x 1.25 x 1.25 inches is the one with 3 of them.
I bought the 12 pckg one. Works great.
Hope thus helps.

**Q: One of the three I bought is not working at all and my peppers almost died while I'm out. How to troubleshoot this thing?**
A: #1 Did you remove the green top and soak the clay portion in water for a while? #2 Did you then fill the clay part with water, firmly place the green cap, and immediately immerse the end portion of the tubing into a container of water? #3 Did the tubing then start to draw water? (Somehow, the green cap creates a vacuum-like action that allows water to continuously flow to the clay portion.... One reviewer suggested slitting a straw lengthwise, and then putting the lowest portion of the tubing inside the straw. This keeps the END firmly in the bottom of the container of water so that it doesn't "float" and not thus not be able to have a continuous supply of water. For me, these work great. I've used these things for quite a while, and never had a problem with them. So if one of them is still giving you problems, it might be defective.

**Q: how high will the water lift with the bottle on the floor and the hose intake at the bottom of the bottle?**
A: The instructions are to put the water reservoir level with the top of the soil for optimum watering. The water intake will be slower if you put the water source lower than that. To answer your question, if the water source is at the bottom of the pot where the intake valve of the Blumat rests, you'll get the least water intake. I would put the water source no lower than midway between the top of the soil and the bottom of the pot. I've used this particular junior Blumat when I was away for 30 days using 2 Blumats on each 13"dia. x 12" H pot with a water pail of about the same size to hold the water reservoir and it performed really well. I came back home with the top of the soil moist and my plants healthy. I'm not sure what you mean by hose intake -- do you mean the intake valve that is attached to the Blumat that rests at the bottom of the water reservoir? Use several Blumats if you have a large pot and make sure your water reservoir is big enough. I used mine indoors, unattended, so I don't know how it will perform outdoors, but I imagine it will perform as well as it should, provided you fill the reservoir regularly when the water level runs low. Please read the instructions carefully that comes with the package. This is a great system, but it has limitations depending on how much the water level is unattended.

**Q: We have several 3 gal. pots in the house. Will one stake handle one 3 gal. pot, or should I use 2 stakes ?**
A: It depends how much the plant in the pot is drinking. These stakes deliver about 125ml every 24 hours, or a bit over 4 ounces of water every day. I would begin experimenting with a single stake, and if your plant seems thirsty or the soil seems dry, you can always add another.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Worked so well I kept using them!
*by T***D on 23 July 2019*

I went on a 3 week vacation and installed 20 of these guys, as I'm too awkward to ask someone to water my hordes of houseplants. I only had 1 plant die, and it was already not doing so well, so I don't blame the Blumat. Several of my plants, including my money plant (Pachira aquatica) had such rapid growth that I'm leaving them hooked up to Blumats permanently! Even my finicky orchid thrived. Here are my tips: 1) Set up at a week in advance so you can ensure that all of your plants are getting watered. 2) Weight the line (tube) bottom. I used large glass beads, but I've seen others using fishing weights. 3) Put on the cap with the whole thing submerged (line and carrot) and use a needle-less syringe or nose/ear bulb to clear bubbles from the line. A baster would probably work in a pinch. 4) Regardless of what is on the directions, I would recommend that the reservoir sits below the plant, or at least that the "carrot" sits in the plant higher than the end of the line. This will ensure that capillary action is what is driving water flow, which will be dictated by how much the plant drinks, rather than gravity. Physics is cool. I used Blumats on a variety of plants with varying water needs, from pothos to kalanchoe, using the tips above, and they all have done well. Make the investment - it's worth it!
