I ended up having to drill holes in the stainless steel in about 8 places and screwing the hood to the bottom of the cabinets. This replaced and 1990's 40" wide hood, it is nice I gained about 4 more inches of space above my range without removing and reworking the cabinetry and chimney to gain a bit more space.
