I switched to a new glass desk and needed something. The design of this is beautiful. The aluminum and white polycarbonate compliment my Mac perfectly. At first it seems loud but I think that's just getting used to it because I hardly notice it at all anymore. The polycarbonate does have a bit more texture at first that smooths out with use. The same thing happens with Apple keyboards and such. It is just what happens to the material. As some others noticed it did get kinda dirty at first. It was easy to clean though and as time goes by I notice it gets dirty less and less. I am not sure what it is, others have alluded to it in posts as well - its like the plastic sheds and makes all kinds of little specks - all over the place. The sides of the pad look like someone shoveled snow if you can believe it.We use an Apple magic mouse, perhaps with another brand its not so bad, but this pad literally looks as good as anything Apple designed so most of the people who bought this are probably Mac users.For $50 I'd expect a lot better material to be used. I am very disappointed in this product - and mad at myself that I wasted my money on two of them.
