Dip means expose the coin for about one to two seconds then wash off with ammonia and distilled water. This is an excellent product if used correctly. The quarters were in a flood and attempt to clean with bleach put brown spots on them. I have had mine for close to a year and it still works as good as it did the first time I used it. **Q: Heard it removes milk spots, is that right?** A: Unfortunately, there is nothing I have found that will remove those milk spots. One quick dip and rinse blot dry, they look good as new! It is recommended to not clean valuable/rare coins, but i doubt I'll ever get back more than the silver content and i have no plans to sell! So i prefer shiny vs dull and dirty. This is for tarnish/ oxidation, and it works on all types of metals, silver copper etc. Not for milk spots! That another product and review! There are many videos on how to dip clean coins. I've purchased several times and i am very pleased!
