I go the one that is thicker at the edge, and that is important for me to align my neck (I'm a sidle sleeper most of the time). I would consider the firmness to be medium or a little on the soft side of medium, which works well enough for me. I have not tried putting it back in the bag, but it seems like that will not be very hard to do (I'll update if I'm wrong about that). One thing I misunderstood is the "extra cover". I got the white pillow and the image showed a separate gray cover in a t-shirt type material. I assumed that the white part was considered part of the pillow, and I would get two of those gray covers. But it turns out the white part is also a cover, and they consider that to be one, and the gray one is extra. That was not clear to me but I guess that is partly my fault, and its fine. However one thing that is not so great is that the zipper on my extra cover sticks when it is 1/3 open. And the quality of the zipper on the main cover is about the same, meaning it does not move easily, and seems prone to damage. it appears that in trying to make sure the zipper is very low profile, it is not as strong as it could be. That's not a dealbreaker for me at this point, but I do wish that part were more functional.
