I am fortunate to have an upright freezer and leaving these knee pads in the freezer for "8" (or more hours) I am able to get 20 minutes of "cold" therapy. I am a mountain biker who has recently started a "running" program. I am a huge advocate for "cold therapy" and "ice packs". I'm 6' 3". I purchased the XL and these are more than large enough to wrap around my knee completely. The velcro straps are wide and have a good latch. The ice packs are double sided. I enjoy cold therapy so, I choose the smooth side, but I have used the material side. Obviously, the material side is not as intense.
