When electric motors turn on they draw a huge amount of current(compared to normal operation) sometimes over 8 times as much, called inrush current, this would cause the boost converter to send in a large amount of voltage to compensate. First, never trust the output of the boost converter, always decrease the voltage to minimum and then slowly work your way up untill your motor starts spinning at 6 volts. That will most likely solve your problem. And second, because servos are current sensitive devices it is always better to use a current limiting boost converter with them IF you are putting them under a heavy load. Don't worry, pretty much ever diy'er has burned out electronics before. **Q: Can this be used with the 5v dc output from a usb power source to a 20v dc bit of equipment (low power)?** A: Yes, your setup will work. You will have to adjust the output voltage using the blue component with the golden screw on top. Best to measure the output voltage with a multimeter before you connect your equipment. **Q: Can this be used safely with an arduino and if so should it be used with the 5V out pin or one of the Analog out?** A: Do not use any arduino pins to power this board. You will fry your arduino. Power the boost converter directly from a dedicated power source and controll the output with a relay. **Q: Can i use this to step 12v from a battery to charge a laptop with these specs - output: 15v dc, 3a, 45w?** A: Not if you are using the laptop while charging, this converter is rated only at 30 Watts so find a more powerful converter. I would go with a 100W one with a nice heat sink just for peace of mind. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐ The Minimum Input Voltage is 3.8V! Do not use with Lion Batteries! *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on 29 January 2021* I experimented with this board hoping that it'd make a decent LiPo 3.8V->12V boost converter. While you can achieve 2A output currents with these settings (especially if you do as recommended and heatsink the board), the device's minimum input voltage is NOT 3.0V, but rather closer to 3.8V (with a minimum current draw of 67mA).At around 3.6V, the board's output voltage skyrockets, its current draw starts to drift upwards and locks at around 0.25A, and the output voltage hits 20, then drifts back down to just above the input voltage. I replicated this behavior with all 3 boards included in the package.DO NOT BUY THIS BOARD IF YOU INTEND TO CONNECT IT TO A 1S BATTERY!This is *incredibly* dangerous behavior for a boost converter that's connected to a Lion or LiPo battery, and without careful testing it'd be very easy to connect delicate equipment to this module, test and calibrate at around 3.8V, and then have a ticking time bomb in your build waiting for lower input voltage. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great DC to Dc Step-up converter *by R***K on Reviewed in the United States on 1 June 2020* Don't try to use it at the rated of Amperage, Mine burned up at a 2 Amps draw .. The radio is POE and 12v wasnt quite enough. Using this device I stepped up the voltage so the 300' network cable losses would be overcome. Worked exactly as expected.For those of you who do not understand electronics, this device is rated 5 amps at the lowest voltage. (5X5=25Watts) If you step the voltage up then the number of amps it can output will drop.
