Then I found out for the 2022 Forester the specification in the owners manual is literally "ask the dealer". That really bugged me. I eventually found out that CVTF-III is specified. Type III is blue, Type II is green. I drained the fluid and it was green which means my transmission was filled with Type II by the manufacturer, but they tell me to buy the more expensive Type III! No way. I filled it with the CVTF-II I ordered and it works just fine. I took it on a long drive up and down some big inclines, stop and go traffic, freeway, etc. No issues.
