How long are the filters good for as in how many hours or cleanings before they need to be replaced?** A: Ok so you don't clean the actual carbon filter. It will last about 12 months, then you reverse the inner filter component and it will last another 12. Longer if used less etc. Now there will be a fabric covering for the whole thing (a pre-filter), and that you do clean. I just throw it in the washing machine and dryer. Taking care of your prefilter and exchanging them or cleaning as needed will extend your filter life significantly. **Q: My filter has so much carbon dust coming out of it that it is useless to me. Yes, large filters can and do release carbon dust caused by long periods of vibration during transportation/shipping. Per instructions we include, before the first use each new filter has to be blown out outdoors for 3-5 minutes by using a duct fan blowing into the filter. Once it's done the filter should not be releasing any carbon dust anymore. If you still see more carbon leaking, there is a chance that the filter has been damaged during shipping and you have a large dent or loose rivets on top or bottom of the unit. This could happen if the filter was dropped or stepped on during shipping.
