I set up an above ground system this year and used 1/2” spikes with 1/2” cut off risers. You need to get to 1/2" with fittings. **Q: what is wrong when the head leaks after the zone is shut off.** A: Hello, It may be just the water that's left in the pipe after the zone shuts off. If it eventually stops and mostly comes out the lowest head on that zone, then that's what it is. It can be resolved by installing a check valve in the existing head or buying a head with a pre-installed check valve. If it never stops leaking, then the valve may ne stuck partially open. It could be a bad diaphragm or just debris in the valve.
