The lens is protected by means of a PVC flap which can be pulled over it and adjusted to the required length You can use the camera with the C35 cape on a standard tripod if necessary or desired. That being said, when I got caught in a downpour in Central Kentucky while doing some state park shots, I was really glad I purchased the Rain Cape. The only thing I find wrong with it is that it's a bit unwieldy and I bring with me only if I know there's extreme weather coming.
