My ac unit didn't smell bad (no mildew or anything like that), but it didn't smell clean either, if that makes sense. This has a clean, almost citrus-y scent and foams up as soon as it hits the fins on the coils. I was worried because it doesn't come with a straw to direct the spray but it comes out in a straight stream and is easy to aim. I let it sit for the recommended amount of time and then rinsed with distilled water. If it was full on summer with humidity I wouldn't have even needed that last step because the condensation would have rinsed it off. I was expecting bad times because of the warning label but it wasnt bad at all and I just left the bathroom fan running.
