## Description

The Havahart Feral Cat Trap Rescue Kit is ideal for novices, experienced trappers, and humane leagues. The kit comes with everything you need to trap and care for stray and feral cats during their transport and is a highly efficient trap for Trap, Neuter, Return programs. This trap was designed for efficiency and convenience. The large trip plate increases the chance of a catch and the spring-loaded doors securely hold the cat inside the trap and prevents escapes. Storing large traps can be a huge inconvenience and can take up a lot of space in your garage or basement. This trap collapses flat to save space and to make storage much easier. Safety and the humane treatment of animals was the number one priority in the design of this trapping kit. The smooth internal edges help to prevent cuts and scrapes to the feline inside the trap and the large handle guard on the top of the trap minimizes the chance of contact between you and the cat. A burlap trap cover also comes included with the trap to help soothe cats if they become anxious and a trap divider allows cats to be fed while inside the trap without you having to worry about their escape!

Review: Great Trap, but DON'T USE THE COVER!!! - Other reviewers have said that the trap is difficult to assemble, and I think I know what happened. I had to order 2 traps. When I took the first one out of the cage, an L-shaped rod with a hook at one end came out of the cage. If I had not had a second trap to use as an example, I would have had difficulty, too. When you take the trap out of the cage, you will be directed to hold it by the handle and let it fall into shape. DO NOT remove the L-shaped rod (called the trigger rod.) If it is not hooked to the trigger when you take it out of the box, do so when you get to step 8 of "Setting Up the Stray Cat Rescue Cage." Be careful not to bend it when you thread the short end of the trigger rod through the underside of the trigger pan. As long as the trigger rod is in place, this trap is very easy to put together. Only minor assembly is required. Now that the instructions are out of the way, here's my actual review: this trap works very well. It is sturdy, and it is sensitive enough to trap a small cat. When I caught the cat, I took it to the vet to be neutered. I asked the technician if he knew how to work the cage door and he said yes, because it was the same type of cage they kept on-hand for emergencies. It's nice to know that this trap is used by professionals. The rescue kit includes a burlap cover. DO NOT USE IT! Seriously, get the cover out of your home as soon as you take it out of the box. It has the most hideous chemical smell I've ever encountered. I took a chance and washed both of the covers, but even after 4 long, hot-water washings, the smell did not diminish. And (I swear this is true) my washing machine now smells like the God-awful things. The stench from the covers filled my entire first floor and gave everyone a sore throat and burning eyes. I am going to write a letter to the Havahart company telling them about this issue. In short, if you have a critter problem, this trap will work perfectly, but DON'T USE THE COVER!
Review: Works well and stays closed when tripped - Excellent trap for catching stray or feral animals. In fact in my case it worked a little too well. I had a feral cat around my house that was not walking on one of his back legs. I bought this trap to catch him so I could take him to the vet to get it checked out. It took me about 5 days to catch the feral cat because I kept trapping other animals. 2 outdoor cats from a neighbour, a racoon and a possum! By the way, it was the first time i'd ever seen a possum and I had no idea what the hell it was. At first I thought it was a giant rat! lol. But on the 5th night I finally trapped the feral cat. He was not happy of course and is now housed in one of my spare rooms in a giant dog crate as the trip to the vet revealed he had a broken metatarsal. So he needs to stay in the cage for 30 days to allow it to heal before I can have him neutered and release him back into the wild. The trap was very easy to put together. I had no issues at all. The separator bar came in handy and worked well when I had to give him some food and water until the vet was open. The trap is pretty sturdy and the trap door is strong enough to hold when the animal is trapped.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this trap have a rear (release) door? It's not mentioned in the description but when I look on Havahart's site, they say there is a release door**
A: This trap is equipped with a back door that can be opened to place food or water inside the trap. It also includes a divider that can be used to keep the cat towards the front of the trap while the back door is opened, preventing an escape.

**Q: Is it very sensitive? I am trying to trap a kitten. The trap I'm using isn't sensitive enuf. He goes in, eats the food and comes right out.**
A: All I can say is that you can play with the sensitivity a bit by moving the 'trigger' so that it's barely holding on. This is something I've done any time I use the trap. Have been able to capture any critter that cooperates by entering and attempt to feed. Kittens are fairly lightweight though. You can also move the bait food to the center and just far enough away from the trap plate that animal will have to stand on edge of trap plate to reach food.

**Q: what are the dimensions?**
A: This trap measures 32” x 10.5” x 12.5” when assembled.

**Q: I have two semi-feral indoor cats, one is 18 lbs. We will be moving to a new house and I need to catch them (indoors). Is this trap a good solution?**
A: Absolutely. The 18 pound cat is pretty big but will fit in this cage, the only thing about having the cage indoors would be the smell of the food in the cage. Typically the smellier the food the faster the cat comes running. Most of the cat's I caught have been medium to small, but I have caught a couple that might be in the 16-18 pound range. I always keep the burlap cover over the cage to calm the cats down during transport. Another thing is when the cat is trapped in the cage don't pick the cage up by the handle on top. If the cat moves the cage will rock back and forth causing the cat to panic a little bit. I pick the cage up with two hands, one on the front and one on the back while keeping the burlap bag over it the whole time. I've used cheap cat food, sardines, and tuna and have had good results with all three. Anything else you need please let me know.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Saved a cat's life.
*by S***S on November 21, 2014*

I was bitten by a feral cat a few weeks ago. According to our local screwed up laws, it somehow was then my responsibility to get him to the vet for a health check/rabies shot. Since the cat bite had hospitalized me for three days, you can imagine that getting within range of this cat again filled me with something like terror. That's where this trap came in. I'd read the review about the bottom falling out and had freaked out, but I can report that did not happen. He's a BIG cat (15 lbs), and he thrashed and flailed in the trap when I lifted it, so let that attest to the fact that this trap is sturdy stuff. I put the trap in his quarantine room 2 days before I baited it so he could check it out, get used to it, ignore it. I highly recommend that technique. I also withheld food the day before, and put nice canned food as the bait, and bingo, he was caught. I did use the burlap, because he was overstimulated, and it did help calm him down, but I cut a slit in the top so the handle could still be used. It did take some squinting at the instructions and perhaps-needless flipping to find the illustration the text referred to. I will confess to being a dummy, one of those people who is barely competent at furniture assembly, and I figured out the trap instructions just fine. Just figure it'll take you 20 minutes and be patient with the instruction booklet. In short, this is a sturdy trap with all the features you want (that separator grate is handy). It let me handle Devil Cat, and saved his life, keeping both of us safe in the process.
