Review: Incredably Well Designed and Built - Having used many ice climbing tools over the years, I can say this tool is built incredibly well. The head and hook are from cast ferrous metal, they are riveted to the handle very solidly, and the extruded aluminum shaft is well made. The coating is applied well and appears to be very durable. As a very famous 20th century rock climber and mountaineer stated, "we are homosapien, the tool users". No camper should be without this tool.

**Q: Is the tent stake puller metal or plastic?**
A: Whole thing is a hard lightweight metal.

**Q: is the handle hollow?**
A: It is hollow. However, it feels solid.  I've use the Hikemax camping hammer on several camping trips and have had no problems.

**Q: Can you hammer 3' 1.5inx1.5in wooden stakes into the ground with this?**
A: Probably not the most efficient hammer to use for a stake that size/material. Would recommend rubber mallet for wooden stakes.

**Q: Has anyone found a good travel case or tough bag for storing this hammer and a bunch of stakes? (for car camping, so a few oz won't matter)**
A: I motorcycle camp with my camp (tent, air mattress, bag, tarps) all carried in a side opening dry bag. To avoid damage by the hammer's sharp edges, I roll it up in one of those cheap blue tarps with that being the last thing into the dry bag.  This has worked well for me.

It's not as durable as any proper home improvement tool, but it's plenty durable for pounding in tent stakes. The hook does make it easy for yanking stakes back out of the ground. Were I a hiker or camper I suppose the light weight aluminum shaft would be beneficial. This thing is half the weight of the various home improvement / framing hammers I have at home. For me it was just a light weight tool to keep with my pop-up shade tent and stakes so I wouldn't need to worry about remembering or losing my real tools.
