Trust me, it will not make a lot of sense unless you have already read the first book, 'The Drafter'. This series has an interesting take on the 'unreliable narrator' concept. Peri has a special talent, but using that talent causes her to have problems with her memory. She is a 'drafter', who can rewrite short periods of time. This talent has allowed her to be a spy/thief/secret agent for a quasi-governmental agency. However, the act of rewriting time causes issues with memory and sanity, so she has to rely on other people to anchor her reality. As it turns out, she relied on the wrong people, and now has major gaps in her memory.Peri is trying to start a new life now that she has left the agency she used to work for. She is at loose ends, hiding from people in her former life and trying to figure out what to do next. She misses the excitement, glamour, and money of her previous life, but wants to be in control of her life and not vulnerable to other people controlling her reality. As events unfold and she is drawn back into old conflicts with new and old players, this conflict comes to the core. New medical technology might allow her to use her drafting talent without losing her memory, but it comes at a high price.I enjoyed this book very much. I liked some of the new characters, and getting to know some of the supporting characters better. Overall I think this was a solid addition to the series. While setting up good opportunities for future action, it was a self contained story arc and made me want to continue reading more books in this series. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Because it's Kim Harrison *by D***S on Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2016* Because it's a Kim Harrison story; I gave it 4 stars. I remain of the opinion that this new Detroit based world needs magic beyond this time rewrite thing. Originally, I had thought to be true when I read the Peri/Rachel Short Story. Here again, I thought maybe I was being overly critical, and then I read the preview of The Turn. The differences in the feel of the worlds was simply amazing. The Hollows world as set forth in the words of Ms. Harrison has no equal. The Detroit world simply doesn't have the depth and range of feel within the words. It's like the comparison drawn between Peri and Michael, where Michael has a longer effect period where the number of seconds of time he can change is greater, but Peri's range of effect is a half a mile while Michael is much less. Then the Jack, is he real or is he not, just gets annoying trying to get it and keep it lined out right throughout each scene. I wanted to like LB and his crew, but there just wasn't a lot of connection created there. So in the end this reads much more like sci-fi than paranormal and as always magic trumps physics; although both are essentially the same. So, I remain a huge fan of Ms Harrison and her works, and am sorry to have to report that this novel was a bit of a let down. I am truely looking forward to reading the upcoming Turn novel and others that may arise.
