You could even use a piece of women's hosiery.

**Q: whats the size of the o ring for this? Mine needs to be replaced but I can't measure if I do I can't get it back on...**
A: No idea. As I recall it is flat where it mates with the base. I also use an adjustable belt wrench to snug the filter cover to the base... ever so gently.
