Since you are digging a deep ditch to put them in with lots of compost I would think they will be OK if the ground is till soft. I live in Northern NV and summers have been hotter than normal so this spring I'm adding white UV cloth to break the strong sun on the plants and keep the soil cooler. Mine are 5 years old and our winters can get into single numbers.
