Review: Forget it, Jake, it's Chinatown. - I remember seeing this for the first time a few years back, I didn't think that much about this movie. I thought it was good, but probably nothing to write about. But after a few years, I decided to watch it again and I found more details about it that I didn't pick up the first time. The writing, especially, is the best thing that I love about it and the twists and turns that the narrative takes you on. I think this may be my favorite Jack Nicholson film, next to The Shining. I love his character, his style, his resourcefulness, and his slickness in his dialogue. It's the typical noir archetype that I enjoy watching. Polanski does a good job on recapturing that '40s noir. Just by the way it's shot, it will have those nice visually dark scenes. Not too many people talk about him know, but I was also happy to see John Huston, a noir veteran to return to play a character in this movie. The music is by Jerry Goldsmith... I mean, come on, must I say more? It's and just excellent. I cant listen to it while I drive home from work at night and feel like I'm driving through downtown LA in the '40s. Chinatown does a great job in entertaining the audience, but at times it has those dark and disturbing moments that end up being very memorable and acts as a testament for great scriptwriting. There memorable moments, memorable lines, and memorable characters that stand the test of time. This film, like so many great ones, is not old... it's classic. A movie that stands the test of time. And I highly recommend this movie. First time seeing Chinatown and thought it was very good, and Jack N was GREAT. PQ and soundtrack were fantastic.
