I used small perm rods and went with the 18-20 minute processing time then rinsed, dried, neutralized. Holy smokes did my hair come out curly. Note that I used to bleach and tone my hair but have not for the past few months while growing it out. Nothing melted or fell off during the perm process! After 48+ hours I went ahead and applied my usual teal color conditioner and went about the recommended washing/conditioning process for permed/curly hair.
