**Q: Are these mono or poly crystalline diamonds?**
A: Ultra Sharp Sharpeners are made of micronized monocrystalline diamonds which results in faster sharpening speeds and greater durability than fragmented polycrystalline diamonds.The key aspects of Ultra Sharp stones are the quality of the diamonds, the carefully graded particle size, and the dense, even distribution of the diamonds on the stones.  This combination of features makes the stones consistently reliable, durable and an exceptional value.

**Q: what is the base made from?  Nickel?  And could i use Trend abrasive lapping fluid?**
A: The base is made from nickle-plated steel.  The best lubricant to use for diamond stones is Krud Kutter.  Krud Kutter is inexpensive and can be found at most hardware stores.  Windex or any all-purpose cleaner like Fantastic, Formula 409 ect all work well but Krud Kutter is the best.  You can use an expensive lapping fluid but these are much cheaper options that work just as good or better.

**Q: Why does this set cost so much more than the ultra sharp ii set?**
A: This set is 8 x 3 inches and includes the Universal Stone Holder.  The Ultra Sharp II set is 6 x 2 inches and does not include a stone holder.

**Q: Where are these made, usa, china?**
A: Being as anything about where these stones are from has been rather elusive and it's not on the package or stones anywhere(that's a first) I'm going to say it's safe to assume China.

I initially experienced some frustration trying to use these stones / plates. I was trying to sharpen a very cheap Harbor Freight plane iron to break in the plates and just couldn't get it to abrade on the coarse stone. As a last ditch effort, I sent an email to Best Sharpening Stones, the seller, and they got back to me the very same day. Even asked if I would send a phone number so they could call me. They also provided some details and information on sharpening that helped me out a ton. Really excellent customer service experience for me. I couldn't recommend them enough. Even if you're not going to buy these diamond plates, but some other sort of sharpening stone, I would definitely recommend you buy from this company. After I received a bit more instruction and a bit more information, the stones really started working much better. The issue was user error and knowledge based as opposed to product based. Mine were very flat and consistent out of the box. No issues with fit or finish there. Nice weight, decent little holder for the stones and they seem to work quite well. I'm no expert, but they're definitely a step up from the smaller composite DMT "stones" I had purchased before. I wish I'd just gone with these stones from Best Sharpening earlier. Live and learn.
