I trimmed my bushes and let some of the trimmings dry out, then sprayed over them. If you have a good base of mulch and there aren't a ton of foliage - then it will look like mulch. But it won't just turn a pile of foliage into mulch. **Q: For those that purchased, how long did the treatment last before the mulch faded again?** A: Haven’t had it long. 2 months. Color is great **Q: Will the red work on pine needles?** A: I’m sure it will I used the black and it covered everything! **Q: If this does not come with a sprayer how do I apply it?** A: I just used an old one that I had bought for killing weeds.
