I have made so many different braids with this kit. It's amazing how many different patterns you can do with the disks. The weight makes the braid smooth and is so worth the money to get. I don't really care for the weighted bobbins but the regular bobbins are great. I like them so much I bought enough to do a 32 string braid. The instructions that come in the kit are basic, so a good book is worth the investment. The instructions do get you started and will allow you to know if you enjoy making Kumihimo braids and give you nice project ideas to make.
