I needed additional one and I did not wanted to spend new higher price of Shure gooseneck that I had bought previously. I am glad I bough this one because sound quality is equal if not better. My only complaint is it says 18" long but when I compared side by side with Shure 18" gooseneck it was longer at least by 2 to 3 inch if not more. So, I am not sure how BOYA measures 18" ? I love the On/Off switch on my model with light indicator; which my Shure does not have. It's an excellent troubleshooting feature to know if mic is getting power or not and the fact that mic is on. I highly recommend this product but make sure to get the correct model, GM18CB There is another model, GM18C; which one of my friend bought and I tried it out and it does not work well. That model had blue color neck just before end of mic. One minor issue I noticed when one specific individual talks there is follow up base hissing sound. Not sure why that is happening. I have 2 of these and they work great. **Q: Does this mic have a built-in speaker, or does it need to be paired with another device?** A: these condenser podium mics work really nice, I bought a pair a few months ago and I can't say enough good things about them. that being said, they are very decent condenser mics, that require a phantom power equipped mixer which I have. otherwise without phantom power they work like regular mics that you have to speak right into them being within inches, with phantom power you can be a few feet away it's what they are truly designed for.. they do not come with any speakers built in.
