The clamps are slotted so in case of the 8in FireTab the power plugs in through the slot after clamping. The range of movement isn’t as good as I’d hoped and it’s a bit stiff, but at least it’s secure once in place (though it wobbles when you turn pages on a Kindle or iPad mini).
