Do not care who they are made for, a 48" top should still be 48" long. **Q: Did anyone have problems with this fitting a 55 gallon tank? Thanks!** A: I bought the Aqueon product (29024) from PETCO and after spending a significant amount of time putting the vinyl back strips on each of the two tops, I then discovered that the glass was about 3/16 of an inch too long to fit in the openings of my 55 gallon tank. Wish I would have come here to read reviews and Q&As prior to picking these up because I would have measured them in the store. Now I get to take them back and I'm probably out of luck when it comes to finding a good fit. My old Aqueons have had their hinges deteriorate and the vinyl strips are brittle and breaking apart. **Q: What are the dimensions of this hood?** A: My hood measured 19 3/8" by 9 1/2" with the plastic cover installed. **Q: Will this fit a 20 gallon?** A: Will this fit an aquarium with OUTSIDE dimensions, 24' W by 12" deep. I like it so much I ordered a second one for the other aquarium.
