It appears to do the job. Internal plastic parts and cover are identical to Hayward. **Q: What are the spare o ring and teflon washer for? Im guessing replacments for where the stem comes through the lid?** A: the small O ring and washer are shown in a picture loose but they arrive assembled on the stem, not any extras. **Q: does this fit an older model hayward 715xr50?** A: Yes. That's the same valve I had and replaced with this item. Perfect fit. Make sure the handle position label matches the location of each position as in the old one: e.g., "Filter" position of new assembly located same as in the old one. There's a notch next to one of the screw openings, on either side, that should then also match. **Q: Does this come with the spider gasket.** A: Yes! Everything was in the box. This item was delivered with the spider gasket along with the O-ring and silicone gasket lubricant. After 4 months, the plastic is cracking everywhere; around the screws (inside & out), around the handle and some areas inside the chamber; even the top section where the settings read has discolored. It looks 20 years old instead of a few months. Worst of all the handle was so loose that you couldn't adjust it and it leaked, my pool guy said it needed to be replaced because it was literally crumbling away.
