I am new to the process, but from comparing it to the soil from a specimen purchased on a bonsai farm, I would say it is comparable to what the farm uses in their bonsai. The bag has a ziplock so that you can reseal the bag when you are done repotting your little tree. The bag is made out of a stiff material that does not breathe so that the soil stays at the same humidity level. If you note that it is drying a bit, spray a little water inside and shake it up - do NOT saturate it, or it might mold. When purchasing this item, my advice is to order it with soft things, or order it alone. My first bag was shipped with other items that were hard and square which tore into the bag. The box was not packaged tightly enough, and the contents could slide making the hard corners of the other objects like a knife to this bag's stiff material. The soil was spilled. It was such a waste - however desertcart was great when I showed the pictures. It was just a packaging problem - life isn't perfect, and it was just dirt on the outside of the other items...it brushes off. I read the reviews on here and decided this one fit my needs and ordered it. It came fairly quickly in a good sized bag, enough for a few medium sized pots. for people like me who live in an apartment its an added bonus that this bag is resealable so it can be easily stored and used again. After re-potting I was AMAZED at how well my bonsai liked the soil. It started growing leaves and seemed to take to the soil very well. The soil is also fast draining as to let the roots dry out a bit between watering to avoid fungal problems. Some advice I have is to order some rocks to layer the bottom of your pot with as its not included with this item and will help drainage of your plant.
