Her parents got a divorce so they had to split the week up evenly three days with one parent and three with the other. But there are seven days in a week so who is going to gt Winnie on Wednesdays? Then the parents decided to make a tree house in the middle of both their houses for Winnie to stay in on Wednesdays. After the constant fighting of who has better times with Winnie using strange holidays, Winnie had enough she couldn't take it anymore so she locked herself in her tree house. A little after she found out that the soil and seeds is from a different country so when she was in her tree house she was in her own country. So she could do whatever she wanted. All of her friends loved that so they joined her. They all told each of their parents that they would only come down if they follow through with there one demand. All the moms and dads refused so it left to a battle. who will surrender first with the parents go with their demands or will the kids just come down? You must purchase and read this amazing book to find out!I rate this book five out of five stars because of the suspense. If you love suspense just like me you will love this book. Just because there is a lot of suspense in this book. Like who will win the war? Parents or kids? Or when Winnie dropped her history report the day it was due all over the city. (The history report that determines if she moves on to middle school or not.) I also recommend this book to the people who are competitive because you can relate with some of the characters. For those with kids that find chapter books daunting and prefer to read only the comic book style 'chapter books' that are so popular with middle grade literature right now - The Great Treehouse War is a perfect blend to introduce kids into great full chapter-book literature! With the fun post-it note narratives sprinkled throughout along with sketches, transcripts, how-to guides, etc. it really makes for page turning fun! The plot and characters of this book are adorably tuned to middle grade thinking and also provides great insight into real-world issues and touches on topics of divorce, finding a voice, etc. in a wonderful and silly approach of extremes while protecting readers from any of the harsh elements that topics of divorce may bring up. Thus keeping it a fun and age-appropriate story of silly antics of a group of friends binding together in a fun child vs. parent story! As an adult I found it a fun and refreshing read to escape the real world for a little bit! I also enjoyed eating some ice cream for breakfast while reading it! She is starting to think that their arguments are more important than she is. She spends every Wednesday in her treehouse because Wednesday is in the middle of the week and she has to spend exactly equal time with her mom and dad. Her treehouse turns out to be her own country so, when she is there, she is independent and her parents can't tell her to come down. She refuses to come down until BOTH of her parents come up together to talk to her. Then the great treehouse war starts.This book is a great book because it is very interesting. I rate it 5 stars for 4th and 5th graders. I learned that kid independence is important.
