If the distance is close enough, then yes, you can. I would think that in your situation, you are not talking about much distance between to count shrimp. **Q: A) Can this sensor be used without the reflector? B) If yes, what would be the effective distance it could count objects passing in front of it?** A: NO, it need to the reflector. **Q: will this item count corn falling through a chute thats 16" in diameter?** A: I dont think so,it counts pieces one by one like running threw some that would trip the senor **Q: what is the current draw when hooked to a 12V battery?** A: I purchased the 120V model, not the 12-24V.
