Review: A MUST for the Frugal Canner - This is not my first mason jar lid lifter, and I love these things, they make a world of difference when opening pressure canned foods. The allow you to break the vacuum seal and lift the lid off with minimal warping and damage to the edges, which means you'll get much more use out of your mason jar lids. While I know that "by the book" a mason jar lid should only be used once, I do think that that's pretty wasteful, and as someone experienced with pressure canning, I prefer to spend the time to inspect my lids and reuse what I can. If a lid is visibly warped, has damaged edges or visible rust, it's time to let it go. In some North American cities, you can put the lids directly in recycling, check your local recycling guidelines. Asides from opening mason jar lids, this opener is also good for breaking the vacuum seal on hard-to-open commercially canned goods such as jams and pickles. Just lift until you see the safety button at the top pop up, and the lid should twist off easily. If I had to nitpick, I'd mention that my other lid lifters work just as well and are practically identical, just sans the branding, which I do prefer. Price wise, they were also a few bucks cheaper. But overall, this jar opener does it's job well, and I barely consider these little details shortcomings.

With it one can pop off a Mason Jar lid in a moment and leave the lid unbent and undamaged for reuse. The metal tab part of the gadget can be used to pry under the lip of sealed jars to release the vacuum inside and make for easy removal. It can also readily remove Crown cap seals such as found on beer bottles, or be used to pry under the tab of a soft drink can. All that being said, the offered price for this opener is not cheap. But then the heft, weight, and general finish of the opener is not chintzy either. It will last a lifetime. Suggestion: if you purchase one of these, get one of those refrigerator magnets with the hooks, and hang this opener on it for quick and easy access instead of having to hunt through an "everything" drawer. You maybe surprised at how often you use it, when it is readily accessible. Be sure to watch the video reviews of this product as they illustrate how this thing is used very, very well. But for opening tough screwed on lids of any kind, I whole heartedly recommend the EZ Off Jar Opener for Weak Hands - Under Cabinet, Easy Grip, One Handed Jar & Bottle Opener - Removes Tight Jar Lid for Seniors with Arthritis - Essential Kitchen Gadgets for Home Assistance - White also available on desertcart. That gadget can be stuck to the underside of a kitchen cabinet, and I have yet to find a screw on lid that will not instantly loosen. (BTW, this under cabinet opener is not recommended for any who have torn rotator cuff or other shoulder injuries, where one cannot easily raise an arm. If that's the case stick with the opener of this review.)

**Q: How do you use it for home canning lids.**
A: It’s used to take the lid off your canning jars, it’ll fit regular and wide mouth. I have one and it works perfectly on Ball and Kerr type lids, not sure about Tattler.

**Q: Will it open Tattler or Harvest Guard reusable lids?**
A: I have a vintage one of these and it's perfect for regular canning lids and especially great for Harvest Guard and Tattler Lids.  I wouldn't be without it. I've had mine for 20 plus years!

**Q: Would this open 3 inch round cap**
A: I have only used it to open all the mason jar lids and it works perfectly!

**Q: Will this bend and damage home canning lids?**
A: No. It does not damage canning lids. That's why I bought it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works Perfectly, but PRICEY

I'm not going to downrate the review for the rather exorbitant price for this opener, even though the price frankly irritates me. We simply needed a 100% reliable Mason jar inner lift lifter that would allow us to reuse lids. (Yes, I know you're not supposed to do this.) The Cookwise opener works well, basically being a close copy of the older "Pry-A-Lid" opener which was discontinued many years ago. You can find the older openers used, but I didn't want used. New old stock comes up here and there, too, but I couldn't find any over several weeks looking. Other newer alternatives don't work as well. So I said the heck with it and ordered the Cookwise. Just a bit of care and the slightest, gentlest of lifts to break the vacuum, and you have an intact lid. Wallet lightened, but problem solved. If you don't care about saving mason jar lids, this type of opener is still the easiest way to open mason jars. Regular bottle and can openers don't work well because there is virtually no space between the lid and jar, the lid is flush to the edge, and there's no prying surface for leverage. Specialized openers like the Cookwise and old Pry-A-Lid are designed to use the TOP edges of the lid for leverage.
