My test includes sending data packets to check the cable’s ability to actually handle 4K 6G transfer rates and bandwidth. The ability to handle ARC and CEC is also tested. Running the tests is pretty straightforward and easy to set up. The cable passed all of the initial quick tests with flying colors, i.e. +5V, Hotplug, DDC Bus, CEC, and ARC. Next, the test equipment performs the long test for cable integrity and bandwidth for a minimum of two minutes. It was at this point that I ran into issues. The cable initially failed the two-minute test. A repeat of the test led to a second failure. I needed a way to verify that the other cable I was using in conjunction with the cable I was testing wasn’t somehow at fault. After finally finding another testing alternative (surprisingly difficult because of the lack of bi-directional functionality on a lot of cables and adapters of this kind), I was able to finally do another test analysis.
