She lost much of her bladder control & urinated often on the rug in one general area. So I used EM-1 almost daily for a number of weeks. It was extremely effective with odor control (since the bacteria digest the urine, not try to "cover up" the smell.) My carpet was medium dark & never showed any staining after using it. **Q: What is the shelf-life of this product?** A: The best way to determine the viability, freshness or effectiveness of the EM-1 you can use a PH test strip. The PH should be between 3.3 and 3.8 if it is good and fresh. The higher the PH reading the older it is. If the PH reading is over 4 then you should probably just dump it on your compost pile and put it to rest. All living things eventually die, microbes included, it's just a part of NATURE. You can also taste test it. If should have a sweet taste NOT a sour (like vinegar) taste. Not as accurate as the PH test but at least it will tell you whether you have teenage bacteria in your bottle or baby-boomers. Good Luck **Q: Is this product flammable?** A: Absolutely not...Its just water, molasses, & beneficial bacteria...I have had phenomenal results with this product! I've used I for soil remediation, aquarium care, in my outdoor water feature, for laundry, multi-surface cleaning, and for cleaning carpets (after puppy accidents!). To say I HIGHLY recommend this product would be an understatement!!! **Q: I've read this stuff is effective against mycotoxins. Is it good practice to kill mold w/hydrogen peroxide or bleach, then run over it with EM1?** A: EM-1 is not approved for use against mold, so all of the information on mold is provided by customers. I would not recommend using hydrogen peroxide or bleach within hours of using EM1. Vinegar works well with EM-1 for cleaning purposes.
