I give this 5 stars for the price and quality, but took off a star because I have no idea why they didn't make this to the exact same size as the factory original remote so that the key could be easily swapped over. Perhaps this is why it is so low priced. In all honesty, the seller does not claim it to be exactly the same size and doesn't even suggest that you put your old key on this new fob.I put my old key (just the metal key itself) on this fob. There are plenty of videos online telling you how to swap your key and circuit board... I will just explain how I modified this to work with my already cut key:1. First of all, you must move the RF immobilizer chip from your old key. Google it. plenty of info online about what this chip is and where it is located. It looks like a glass pill and it is glued into your old key. The chip is down in a hole. I filled the hole with acetone and let it sit. It took about 45 minutes to soften the glue and the chip came right out. I used a dental pick to get under it and lift it out. It took little effort or pressure once the glue dissolved. to put this chip in the new remote, I did not use glue as i do not want to go through that again. I dropped it into the hole in the new remote and inserted a small piece of foam into the hole as well to hold it in place and keep it from rattling. when the remote halves are put back together, there is no way for it to move around or fall out.2. As stated earlier, I move the key, circuit board, and battery and you can find plenty of detailed info online about how to do this.3. I trimmed the plastic case with a utility knife. I will post photos on the exact locations to trim later. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works great - need to slightly modify to make old key flip open *by M***K on Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2014* I bought 2 and they are a great deal at this price and with free prime shipping. As others have written, when you put your already cut key into the new fob it does not (easily) flip open like a switch blade. The reason for this is that the round plastic piece that the key rotates on when the key flips open is slightly to big, at least for my 2003 Passat key. To fix this I simply rolled a 2" X 3" piece of 100 grit sandpaper into a tube (sand facing inwards) and put it on the round plastic and rolled it back and forth (see pictures), if you tape the sandpaper tube you can use scissors to cut the tip of the tube to make it flat and also expose a fresh bit of sandpaper. 1 minute and job done. Test it by placing your existing metal key into the socket and see if it moves up and down with zero resistance - if you try before you start sanding you will feel the resistance and know why the key does not just flip when you push the button. And getting both transponders out was not that big of a deal just leave the plastic piece in a jar of solvent over night (like nail polish remover) - it is encased in glass and will not be harmed but the plastic and glue will be softened up. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good alternative to a 70+ dollar key replacement! (if you know what you're doing) *by A***S on Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2014* Pros: VW agreed to cut the key. It's a solid design and the buttons feel better than the OEM remote. Attention to detail for the LED indicator and other options are a plus. Good strong spring and assembly matches OEM for a good fit (see cons). I moved the battery holder and battery with good fit. The chip with the buttons moved over nicely onto the given pegs. Be careful as the pegs are small so if they break you're out of luck. Overall a good case for the price!Cons: an OEM key does not swivel right in this case. Moving the pre-cut key over to this device was not a solution, as it was hard to make the key swivel. Also, if you're not prepared to carefully scrape the glue off of the transponder then it wont work unless you go to VW anyway. I'm a technician, so I was able to get the transponder out. It will rattle in this new case unless you super glue it in with something. Back to the key issue, this ended up being a 30 dollar solution since VW charges 20 bucks for a key cut. Had the old key worked, this would have been a 10 dollar solution. Just something to think about!
