After two uses I've decided to deal with the Sanyo for now.The measuring cup, which every rice cooker comes with, is useless. If you doubt this then look up directions to cook plain white rice, then basmati, then a hard brown rice. Each type requires a different water to rice ratio, regardless of which cooking method is used. To try to say that some single measure can work for all of them is a sure road to disappointment. So you have to make sure you are ready for experimentation till you get it right. If you have any doubt then add an extra half cup of water, it'll come out o.k., except...It's going to boil over, and make a huge mess, no matter what you do. I've cooked close to a hundred pounds of the rice blend I use over the past year or so, but I couldn't keep the unit from boiling over. I'm open to the fact that I might have had too much water, but I didn't have a problem with my old cooker. So experimentation and crunchy rice will have to be part of the equation, in the mean time make sure you put something under this thing!As for sticking rice in the pan - Get used to it. It's all relative and I'd challenge anyone who claims that their rice never sticks to the pan. But the good news is that it's an aluminum pan and you can grab a course scrubber and go at it, no teflon to worry about here.The only real gripe I have is the lack of an off switch, that is just dumb. Used today and a few observations:1) the inner pot is not as "heavy duty" and that I mean not thick/heavy feeling but feels rather fragile looking (so handle with care - no dropping!).2) the cooking base is fairly sturdy and not as fragile as I thought from the reviews I've read.3) No bubbling during or after cooking (used 5 Asian cups Jasmine rice, rinsed once, and filled a tiny bit over the 5 cup mark).4) I do like no non stick just for peace of mind (and wondering where the peeled bits went!). And its true what another reviewer said - let the rice rest for 10 mins after cooking and it wont stick. I prefer to unplug it and not have the warm feature. I have cooked white and brown with this rice cooker and have obtained good results. Just be sure to adjust amount of water depending on the type of rice you are cooking.Cleaning is easy. Couple of ergonomic things I dont like: the handles are really dinky, and the cooking pot has a very shallow lip (unlike my old 20-year National which this replaced).
