I used it right off the ceiling vent fan. The exhaust duct on the old fan was 3 inch and the fan vent opening on the new fan was 4 inch. Aluminum taped inside and outside, then double wrapped the ducting. As strong as the reducer is, it would be difficult to reduce the length **Q: What's the temperature rating on this reducer?** A: Its galvanized steel! Unless you r looking for industrial stuff, the temp rate must be way above what you need; if you looking for industrial, steer clear! **Q: Can you clamp this to a 4 inch dryer vent? not the hose side** A: You need a duct splitter probably.. I don't really know what you're trying to do **Q: Will this work for a portable electric dryer?** A: I used it to vent a free-standing a/c unit. I did not have a window and drilled a hole in the wall and used this to vent it.
