A must have for anyone visiting Washington D.C. or interested in espionage!

First of all this book feels and looks great, I plan to carry it in my coat pocket on my next trip to D.C. I have been a fan of Wallace and Melton's other books - "Spy Sites of NYC", "Philadelphia", "Ultimate Spy", etc. - but this one may be the best yet....after all, Washington D.C. is our national's capital and it is loaded with foreign embassies full of foreign intelligence officers. This book covers the real world of espionage in DC from 1790 through to 2016. I love the easy to follow chronological flow of the book and it's logical layout full of lush photos, maps and even the rare (FBI captured, etc.) Soviet cipher pad and other intelligence tradecraft artifacts. Only the historian and owner of the 'world's largest collection of spy artifacts' and the former CIA OTS (Office of Technical Services) director could combine forces and deliver this book! The perfect weekend trip: this book and its 220 sites to visit plus a trip to the International Spy Museum! (James Bond would be jealous!). I can't wait for the "Spy Sites of Moscow"!

This is one of the best books I have bought

*by B***Y on Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2017*

This is one of the best books I have bought. No kidding. I love history and it is full of history. I love and am proud of the intelligence community and this has great foundational knowledge on the art and science and leadership of required for success in the IC. And living in DC makes this book especially useful. I read it cover to cover, but it is now useful as a reference when I want to plan an outing. For example, I always knew about the OSS training camps at what is currently Prince William Forest Park. But now I have the background and guidance I needed to go visit the places myself. You will also find connections to what can be considered the first imagery collector/analyst, a man who could be thought of as the father of today's NGA. His old building in DC is still there and is home to a pub so find it and have a cold one and toast what this guy did for our nation.

    Smile! You're on SpyCam!

This book presents a fascinating look at the spies and the sites they inhabited. There are a lot of pictures which is a wonderful addition to the text. It definitely would be a 'take along' on any trip to D.C. My only 'complaint' is the gray type used throughout. It makes reading a little difficult.
