At the time the heaviest camera I was using was a medium format Mamiya RB67.Nowadays I use a Nikon D5000 (yeah, big step down) but still use an additional flash and like to do longer exposures, so a tripod is still pretty important. This tripod is more than sturdy enough for this setup, and would be appropriate for even the larger FX-format rigs, though it would be a bit bendy for any medium format equipment.. Still, it's far lighter and more compact than the Bogen.Overall the fit and finish of the aluminum and carbon fiber are top quality. The only minor issue I can report so far is that the rubber friction ring on the base of the swivel control is loose - that is, the rubber grip ring that goes over the aluminum knob slides when you tighten it. I imagine a dot of super glue will fix this, so for now I'm not penalizing it. There are a ton of nice features - built in sandbag hook on the bottom (for stability) while one of the legs detaches as a monopod. While you are intended to connect the center post to the monopod leg to get more extension, I found it to be a real pain to get the center post back into the tripod, so I probably will either use only the leg as a short monopod, or do as I did with the Bogen where I connected the legs together with an elastic tie so that I could use make the tripod as a monopod.Update - it lools like I must have had the collar tightened or something when I tried to re-insert the center shaft - I've found after trying again that it is actually very simple.One thing to note - I'm more accustomed to the tightening knob rather than these tightening collars - it seems when you want to loosen them you have to turn them until you feel a "click" which indicates that the collar has released. I am going to review this tripod based on my usage:- This is a very light tripod, around 2lb. It is compact and very light. I can even fit the tripod within my backpack during hiking/urban trip.- The overall tripod is very sturdy. It holds my setup well against mild wind (under 20mph). My typical landscape setup is: Camera + Battery Grip + Wide angle lens (e.g., 17-40) + Filter holder. The setup is mounted on the battery grip.- This tripod works great tor wildlife pr sport photography where panning is needed.- The advertised max capacity is 33 lb. I suggest to keep your setup under 15lb. My astrophotography setup is a around 20lb (camera + battery grip + 150-600mm telephoto lens + 2x extender, the setup is mounted on the lens collar), and it reaches the limit. If I add more weight to my setup, the tripod head is unable to keep the system sturdy. For example, if I focus the center of the view finder to the moon, within 5 seconds, the moon will go off center.- One of the tripod legs can be detached as a monopod. I suggest to put three legs together. It is more sturdy.- Most photographers only extends the three legs in the bottom, they don't extend the center leg above, because the upper leg is less stable. The measurements of this tripod (65") assumes that you extend both upper and lower part. If you only extend the bottom legs only, the height is around 50" only.- This tripod is compact, but there is a price attach to it. It will require longer setup time. First, you will need to flip three legs for 180 degree, then push down the center leg. Now that's the fun part. The tripod legs use twist design to extend the legs. Comparing to the clip design, the twist one requires you to untwist the ring, pull the legs, and twist it back to tighten it. This method is very slow comparing to the clip design (open the clip, let the legs to freely fall down on its own, and close the flip). I've found that I spent 3x more time to set up my tripod. This is definitely not fun if you do lots of stop and go (e.g., hiking with group).Overall, I like this tripod because it is light and sturdy. This is very important to me because I do a lot of hiking. However, this tripod will be great if they switch from twist design to clip design for extending legs. For landscape photographers, this is very useful because we make lots of stop and go.
