Q: How can I detach the milk frother to use the egg beater? Pulling the attachment at the base did not detach it.

Ok, so I couldn’t figure out what everyone meant by the black piece. Mine is blue green. After reading about popping out the part, I got a butter knife and wedged it between the piece at the bottom, which I initially tried to unwind but it didn’t loosen. You can gently pop out the piece at the bottom and then pull out the milk frother piece with a tug.

Q: Is this good for making cappucinos? I am confused because some reviews mention that it is NOT good for hot drinks

I heat my milk in the microwave (in a pyrex measuring cup) before frothing and it works just fine. I don't want to add cold frothed milk to my hot coffee. Just keep in mind that the milk volume will almost double, so the container you froth in needs room to allow for this. This is handy to take on trips too. Even camping

Q: How durable is it? Anybody having one working for more that 5 years?

I bought mine in December 2013. It's now July 2015 and it just stopped working. Used it everyday since I got it. I'm going to buy another milk frother; probably another brand. I've had 2 frothers, different brands; both stopped working. Not sure if any of them last 5 years.

Q: does the ozeri deluxe milk frother heat up milk as well as frothing it?

No, it does not heat the milk. I put my mug in the microwave to heat the milk and then froth it. After frothing, I add the expresso.
