## Description

Product description Penguin Pottery’s glazes offer a huge range of effects to choose from: vivid, bright, smooth, glossy, textured, satin, matte; opaque, semi-opaque, semi-translucent, translucent, flowing, non-flowing. Our low fire glazes are perfect for school projects, classrooms, studios, and potters who do not fire at high temperature. These low fire glazes are the potter’s choice when looking for a wide palette of colors, like celadon, lively reds, deep greens, bright blues. Our mid fire glazes offer similar ranges but also introduce interesting effects and tonality not available in low fire glazes. How to Get Great Results with Our Glazes Mix Well Before Using Sometimes glaze contents will settle. That's normal! Just like house paints, ceramic glazes need to be fully mixed to ensure smooth consistency. We recommend mixing well for at least 1-2 minutes. Choose How to Apply You can apply glazes either by (a) dipping your bisqued piece into the glaze or (b) brushing it on. Our glazes are ready to apply with a brush. If you're looking to dip, we recommend applying a dispersing agent like Darvan . Remove Dust from Bisque Removing all dust from your bisque-fired piece is critical to ensure a good outcome. Clean moist sponges are best. Make sure your piece is completely dry before glazing! Fire Glaze to Correct Cone Ceramic glazes are classified according to a temperature range ("cone") in three general groups: "low-fire," "mid-fire," and "high-fire." Over-firing will damage the piece/possibly the kiln, and under-firing will just give you ugly results. A Note on the Art of Glazing Ceramics One of the fascinating aspects of ceramics is the slight variations we can achieve by using different clay bodies, glaze types and firing methods. It's like vintage film photography - you don't know what it'll look like until you get it out of the kiln! Glazes will react differently (and look different) depending on several factors, including The temperature at which they're fired: even small changes in temperature can lead to different outcomes. The clay body on which the glaze is applied: the same glaze will look different if applied to a darker vs. lighter clay. The speed at which your kiln reaches the target temperature. How much oxygen is in the kiln's atmosphere while firing. That is why ceramics is an art! We recommend you experiment with different approaches and, most importantly, embrace the uncertainty. You will have a lot of fun seeing different results! About Penguin Pottery Employee Owned and US-Based : our company was founded by and run by potters. Review: Gorgeous finish and reliable results everytime! - This glaze has quickly become one of my favorites in the studio. The color is absolutely beautiful—soft, earthy, and layered with a subtle depth that gives each piece a unique, natural look after firing. It applies smoothly and consistently, whether brushing or dipping, and I’ve had great results in the kiln with even coverage and no surprises. The finish has a really nice balance—not too glossy, not too matte—just a perfect, calm aesthetic. I especially love how it enhances texture and details in my pieces. If you’re going for a more organic, neutral look, this glaze is a must-have. I’ll definitely be repurchasing!
Review: Great red for oxidation firing! - Love this glaze with its depth that shows a hint of gold within the structure of the glaze. Turns brown in contact with clear zinc free glaze (HF-9). Quite runny so provide a dam grove at the bottom of the piece to catch and control the run.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great red for oxidation firing!

### ⭐ Not a good glaze experience.
*by A***R on May 7, 2026*

Miserable experience with this glaze. Granted I left it sit in the jar in my studio for a year before using, but this glaze was unrecoverable....tried using a wire whisk, a stirring stick first to remedy the chunkiness...when this failed to achieve a smooth brushable consistency, I tried a small handheld submersible blender from the kitchen. This also failed, so tried adding some water...which just stayed water and wouldn't mix with the glaze components. I am using this small quantity to teach others, and we have no sieve to remove the largest particles. I expected more from this brand.
