I own a pair in khaki, and a pair in everglade. I was a bit puzzled by other reviewers not liking the fit, so I measured the waist on a pair that has been worn about 12 times. I typically wear a 38' waist, and ordered these RR shorts in a size Large. With the elastic waist completely relaxed, these shorts measure approximately 36 inches the waist. Stretching the elastic waist to maximum, the waist extends almost to 42 inches. So the Large does fit for my 38 waist but with some stretching of the waistband.Overall, I love the fit and function of the pockets on these shorts. The slash back pockets are pure genius in their design, making access to the pockets very easy. The belt is comfortable and doesn't rub underneath my backpack's belt. They a cool, comfortable, and dry quickly. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great product, please stay the same! *by Y***. on Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2015* I have 2 pairs of these short that are 7-9 years old and they began to show signs of wear and tear: a loose belt buckle here, a hole in a pocket there. Please note that I an an intense hiker and my shorts are used intensively. So I spent 2 hours in Dick's, REI and Academia trying various shorts by Columbia, REI, North Face, Patagonia, Marmot, BCG and God knows who else. The designs were preposterous, the fabrics were flimsy, and the colors, in Patagonia's case, were definitely picked up by someone on acid. North Face was especially disappointing since I love this company and am very happy with their backpack, fleece, etc etc. So I checked Amazon for Royal Robbins, ordered a pair, and got an exact copy of my old shorts. Nothing has changed: same nylon, same color, same length, same fit. This gives me hope: maybe there is a place on Earth where Windows stay XP forever?Update (March 2018): Since my shorts were stolen in Curacao, I've ordered another pair. Everything is perfect again. ### ⭐ Fit and cut have changed *by C***. on Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2018* I bought these as replacements for a pair I bought about six years ago. The design details are the same and the material seems similar or the same but the similarity ends there. They say "relaxed fit" but are much tighter around the legs and two inches shorter than the originals. I am 38" waist and got large but they are nowhere near big enough. Pulling the elastic waist taut the button is a least two inches from the buttonhole. Although they are marked large they fit and are cut as if they are mediums or even smaller. Made in a different place now according to the label so I don't know to what extent that factors in but they are not the same thing I bought before.
