Out of the case they are very sharp. After a few uses, you need to use the steel provided and eventually the included sharpener to keep the desired sharpness. My only complaint is that the case is too small to keep the paring knife in its place. To over come this problem, I moved it to the middle of the case and put a longer knife in it's place. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this set.
