If what you're saying is that the side frame of the bed comes up, and the mattress sits down in, then I would think that you could still use it if you lift the mattress, place it, and then have it sitting between the mattress and the bed side. I also mounted the storage basket on the other side by drilling out mounting clip rivets and re riveting it the opposite side . Its just more convenient to use it if you are laying in bed. Otherwise very good and sturdy. Fits perfect between box sping and top mattress.
