Someone answered no. Why not? It is rated to 300 volts and 2.5 amps.** A: A lot of people commenting here don't understand electricity. I do so I'll answer. You could use this for a lamp. The cord would have to be less than 10 ft probably. A 100 W incandescent light bulb would draw less than 1A. An equivalent CFL would draw around 1/3 A and an LED even less. So in theory, you could use this wire. However there are also valid reasons not to. 1) Inrush current. When an incandescent light bulb is cold its resistance is lower than when it's hot and stable. Ergo, higher startup current. Ditto for electronic ballasts that drive CFL. Not sure about LED on that one. 2) Durability. 18 AWG lamp cord has good strain relief and heavy insulation. Lamp cord is the better choice because not only is it more durable, it's also U/L tested and approved for the application. If I had this stuff already on hand but had to wait to get to the hardware store, then ya I might use it temporarily. But it makes no sense if you can get to a hardware store and buy lamp cord way quicker than Amazon will ship you this LED cable. **Q: Can this wire be used for garage door opener wall controller (chamberlain controller)?** A: Yes that is what I used it for myself **Q: Is this wire pure copper, or copper-clad aluminum?** A: Seemed like a good question, so I took a closer look and counted 19 strands that appear to be silver plated. According to http://www.thelen.us/1wire.php, 20m of 2-conductor #20AWG 19-strand weights about 220g. My postage scale says the entire roll weighs 231g, including insulation. So, I vote that its real copper. I put a little solder on it, and it looks like good stuff. (I haven't used it yet because the connectors I need were back-ordered). **Q: Will make my own string of xmas lights (indoor use). 12 snap in c7 sockets for 1.5w led bulbs plugged into standard ac outlet. will this work?** A: Will it work? Yes. Will it be safe? No. The problem is it will be plugged into a household socket being supplied by either a 15 amp or 20 amp circuit breaker. If there is a fault, the circuit breaker won't trip until at least 15 amps is exceeded. Since this wire is rated at only 2.5 amps, there isn't adequate circuit breaker protection to protect it.
